Following is the speech by the Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Mr Law Kin-wai, at the Fourth Anniversary and Third Induction Ceremony of Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines Inc. (HKCCPI) in Manila, the Philippines today (January 11):
Antony (HKCCPI’s President from 2016-2018, Mr Antony Chan), Frank (HKCCPI’s President from 2019-2020, Mr Frank Co), distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
I would like to congratulate Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines on your fourth anniversary. I would also like to extend my best wishes to the new team who has been inaugurated just now. Welcome onboard!
The Chamber has never held back its effort in promoting Hong Kong. In the past four years, it has done a marvelous job in organizing and participating in numerous events to enhance the relationship between Hong Kong and the Philippines.
With members of strong affiliation with and affinity to Hong Kong, the Chamber is one of the most active and supportive Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce around the globe. I am confident that the new team will continue the good work and lead the Chamber into new heights.
Fostering stronger bilateral relations with ASEAN countries, including the Philippines, in an important focus for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. We are pleased to see that the relations between the Philippines and Hong Kong has been growing stronger in recent years.
On trade, the amount of bilateral trade between the two places from 2014 to 2017 has increased on an average of 13.4% annually. The merchandise trade in 2017 grew even further by 23.0%. There are also strong bonds in other areas, such as investment and people-to-people exchange. These are all very encouraging.
My office, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, will continue working closely with the Chamber to further enhance bilateral relations of the two places.
Please join me to congratulate once again the fourth anniversary and the third induction of the Chamber. May I wish the Chamber every success in its future endeavours.
