Chinese New Year Reception in Jakarta Indonesia

Following is the speech by the Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Jakarta, Mrs DO PANG Wai Yee, at the Chinese New Year Reception co-organised by the HKETO, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Indonesia-Hong Kong Business Association (IDHKBA) in Jakarta, Indonesia today (February 13):

Ambassador Xie Feng (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Indonesia), Peter (Regional Director, South East Asia & India of HKTDC), James (Chairman of IDHKBA), Kwan Ho (Director of HKTDC in Indonesia), Ladies and Gentlemen.

Good evening and thank you for joining us this evening to celebrate the Year of the Rooster. This is the first year our office, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Jakarta co-organise this Chinese New Year Reception with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Indonesia-Hong Kong Business Association. It is indeed our great honour to have you all with us tonight.

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region set up our new office here last year. In the past months, we have been busy getting to know Indonesia, setting up our long-term office and establishing our network. We are grateful for the assistance rendered by the Chinese Embassy, [the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs], and all our friends and business counterparts here. You have all made us felt welcomed and made our job easier. We cherish your help and our friendship very much. I look forward to working closely with you all in the days ahead to build a closer relationship between Hong Kong and Indonesia.

This year will be an exciting year for us. This is the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region since Hong Kong return to our motherland in 1997. Our office will launch a series of event to celebrate the occasion which will also tie in with the formal opening of our office. I look forward to seeing you all at our celebration events.
